"Mr. Bob Hope, he says it's urgent!" Eve replied.
"I'll take it in here!!!!!!!!"
"Good afternoon. I apologize for the intrusion,"
said that unmistakable voice at the other end of
the telephone line. "But I have something very important to ask you.
There's a war on
ya know, and our boys overseas need a morale boost only you can give them.
Now before you give your answer there is some good news as well as some
bad. The good news is,
we have an audience of 75,000 soldiers over here, who are just dying to
meet you.
The bad news is, that, should you accept our invitation, you would have
to
leave day after tomorrow. Of course I do apologize for calling on such short
notice,
but when duty calls, I thought you might understand. "
"Why, Mr. Hope, I'd be delighted to do my bit... for the boys... over there!"
It was all arranged. I was so excited, I called my couturier

and had a costume ready in time for my departure. The tour was a
major success, to say nothing of what it did for my career. Here's a shot
of what I wore.
It was a cotton gab military style jacket and skirt. Underneath was a
halter-cut, one-piece affair with stars and stripes that
hugged me in all the right places, if you know what I mean.
A star-studded overseas hat and brass bugle with blue silk tassels,
a wing and a prayer. I'll never forget that day... or that tour... for as
long as I live.
